  Purpose of these pages

These pages are provided to help school students and teachers of Geography, Environmental Studies and Studies in Society.

Geography is not only about finding places. Among other roles this discipline of study is concerned with explaining the relationships between aspects of society and the environment. These relationships can be revealed through spatial analysis and so help all of us to make better decisions about human activities and our environments.

These pages have been written with modern, school curricula in mind. They are especially suited to Australian courses in Geography, Environmental Studies and Studies in Society at middle to senior secondary levels. They may be found to be of considerable value in some curricula in England and Wales at GCSE and A level. The books mentioned may be found useful in Geography curricula, particularly those based on the Bristol or Geography 16-19 Projects. Students of Global, World or Environmental Studies at GCSE level also will find the series helpful.

Geography - Environment - Society

The most recently added pages can be accessed from this page under the heading of Ongoing Issues ...

Note added in 2024

More pages with suggested issues were added after this page, albeit more than twenty years ago. Many of the issues mentioned in this site still have relevance today, or at least can be compared with similar, current concerns. Refugees are an obvious example. See this later Index of Issues at Ongoing Issues Index
